About me...personally

In my Chinese name – Chan tzi kei – tzi sounds like purple (but means jade). Hence I like the colour purple.

Apart from that, I’m a past-architectural designer, amateur animator, skincare lover, and orchestral music nerd.

I’m an architect-turned product designer. The common thread is that I’ve always been passionate about creating useful and beautiful designs.

I’ve worked in different public and private sectors, including startups, the Ontario government, and private companies. Whether it’s healthcare resident management or redesigning a government portal, I’ve brought projects from research to launch.

I chose to pursue a UX degree, and it was a great decision that taught me the best practices, connect with seasoned professionals, and (the best) make friends with very smart and talented designers! I graduated (2022) from the Master of Information at UofT, concentration in User Experience Design.

My friends would describe me as someone who’s motivated, conscientious, and at times spontaneous. I believe that traits of a good designer include curiosity, collaboration, and humbleness.

My atpyical journey

I love making things. Architecture attracted me because of its bustling studio culture. Here, I learned how to structure my design thinking to make clear decisions. Some incredible projects I worked on  range from making digital ancient 3D temples to winning urban design proposals.

I transitioned into the UX realm after becoming curious about it from some friends who seemed to love it after switching to tech. Afterwards, I read many books and took courses, before taking a design position at a seed-stage dating app startup. I loved research based design decisions, the personal interaction with users, and the impact. It’s truly an iterative design process.

Now I’m currently designing at PointClickCare and am super thankful to be able to work towards the healthcare space.

Design Big. Like Beyonce.

I heard this & thought it was funny. And there’s truth to it. It’s important to see the big picture – of how to bring value to users – before scaling up to perfect something. Defining the overarching goal means directing efforts properly.

What I'm seeking

I want to work with teams that design for people and create meaningful products. I’m interested in  organizations that value design culture and translates it to impactful products.

Design is a powerful tool meant to help people.

We’re all called to love our neighbor in the capacity we can give. It’s important that convictions translate into actions, so I volunteer in my spare time.

Curious about how I volunteer? Feel free to email me for a coffee chat!

STUFF I FIND COOL

Design Inspirations

I follow a bunch of designers or artists I find cool (very typical, I know). It’s really good for finding inspiration or just seeing what others are doing. I really appreciate it when designers include quirky details or have a strong craft in their work.
